The Usambara mountains

With their wide huge viewpoints, the pleasantly chilly mountain woods, the sinuous paths and picturesque villages the Usambara mountains are the highlight of northeast Tanzania and a very interesting and worthwhile mountain bike area.

The Usambara mountains stretch from the Kilimanjaro up to the Indian ocean. This mountain range belongs to the oldest mountains of Africa. Divided in West and Eastern Usambaras they rise over 1700 and 2300 metres above the sea.

Even if touristic cycling is are rare thing in almost all areas of Tanzania very, the mountain bike is an ideal means of travel..

The climate

Tanzania has a pleasant, tropical climate which differs on the regional level, however, substantially. In the Usambara to mountains the temperatures are always between 15 and 25°C. The coldest months are August and October. All year round basically the Usambara mountains can be visited easily. In the rainy season from March to May restrictions are possible.
